A noisy unit that runs frequently BUT...

At present, I am not exactly enamored with this unit for the two reasons noted above. The refrigerator this unit replaced was about 20 years old and it ran much quieter than this unit. IT MAY BE THE CASE this unit is running as designed but if it is, someone in the Whirlpool design team needs to be replaced. Whether the reason is less internal (sound baffling) insulation or some other explanation, be forewarned this unit is noisy.
The other issue we have experienced is the unit runs a lot BUT in fairness to Whirlpool it appears to be the case this unit has a blower that circulates the internal air to help keep things cool. At present, and after two cycles of my electric bill, I cannot see any savings from the standpoint of energy consumption BUT there are a lot of other variables in play there as well.
The last observation I will make here has to do with Whirlpool's support of their product. I did have a Whirlpool designated repairman come out to address an installation issue I thought might be contributing to the noise issue. However, any service call during the warranty period comes with a disclaimer saying (to the effect) "...if the technician cannot find anything wrong, you will be subject to a charge for the service call." I get this policy is meant to discourage frivolous calls but at the same time it does not paint a positive picture of Whirlpool standing behind their product in such a manner that will increase consumer confidence.
Bottom Line: If you are considering this unit, it would be well worth your time to find some way to listen to a unit operate PRIOR to purchasing this unit IF sound levels are a concern to you. Additionally, please note many of the areas I have been asked to provide feedback on below (Quality, Value, Design, etc...) it is far too early in the ownership experience to provide meaningful feedback so (for now) I have opted for the middle of the responses UNLESS there is something specific I have experienced to date.
Average (3 star) responses should be interpreted as having too little experience upon which to make an informed observation!
